Using gnokii in Linux to Send Text Messages (SMS) with Nokia E51 Symbian Series 60 Phone on a USB cable

Here's a dirty but working configuration file (.gnokiirc) for gnokii that I used to send a couple of SMSes (text messages) from my mobile phone. Nokia E51 is a Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI mobile phone.

# GNOKII Version 0.6.30
# 3.9-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.9.8-1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

# This is the minimal gnokii configuration I were able to use with my
# Nokia E51 and a standard USB cable. --smssend works, with --class 0
# (flash SMS) also. But I cannot read SMSes nor MMSes, nor contacts
# from the phone.

# I had to unload cdc_phonet (modprobe -r cdc_phonet), to make the
#  device available.

# All of these work
port = /dev/ttyACM0
#port = 1
#port = usbpn0

model = series40
connection = dku2libusb

# Program command and output:

# cat .gnokiirc-compact | \
